Promotion Policy

Being retained is a traumatic experience for both parent and child. At College Park Middle School, our mission is to be proactive and prevent retentions when possible. Part of preventing retention is communication with parents and students on the policies and procedures for retention/promotion. Parents and students, please read carefully to familiarize yourself with the Promotion Policy. If you should have any questions please contact your child’s guidance counselor by clicking here .

To be promoted to the next grade level students must do the following:

Successfully pass at least 3 out of 4 academic subjects with a 60% or better final grade. The student will have to retake the failed class during summer school or course recovery.

Successfully pass at least 1 out of 2 elective subjects with a 60% or better final grade.

Remember that although you can pass Middle School with a GPA of 1.0 (which is a D average), this is NOT THE CASE for high school. High schools require a minimum 2.0 GPA average to graduate. This means a “C” average is required to get a high school diploma.
